The Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians, also called SPRAT, is a member-driven organization dedicated to the advancement of safe rope access use through education, standards development, and certification administration.
SPRAT was established in the 1990s to address the needs of a growing number of companies and operators employing rope access techniques in North America. While a variety of rope access techniques had been used in industrial sectors for decades, safety managers and legislators would at times prevent companies and operators from working without specific standards and legislation that support rope access systems. SPRAT’s development of industry-consensus standards, including Safe Practices for Rope Access Work and Certification Requirements for Rope Access Work, raised awareness of rope access system safety and effectiveness while helping create the first laws sanctioning rope access system usage in North America.
Since 2001, thousands of rope access technicians representing dozens of companies and government agencies have been certified to SPRAT standards.
Altius Technical Services is proud to be a Full Training Member of SPRAT. Headquartered in Houston, Texas we also offer the full SPRAT courses at our state-of-the-art training facilities in Atlanta, Georgia, New Orleans, Louisiana, Las Vegas, Nevada in the USA, and Cape Town in South Africa.
