SPRAT Level 2 Rope Access Training
The SPRAT Level 2 rope access training is an intermediate-level course designed to teach experienced students new skills with an enhanced emphasis on speed, efficiency, and productivity. The SPRAT Level 2 Rope Access Lead Technician course takes place over five days, with a four-day training period followed by a one-day assessment. In this course, students will learn the following:
- Management communication and awareness
- On-the-job safety
- Mechanical advantage system principles
- Pull-through anchors
- Load-sharing anchor techniques
- Rope system theory and analysis
- Cross hauling
- Rescue hauling
- Aid climbing
- Rescue techniques and applications
To enroll in this course, applicants must:
- Be a minimum age of 18 years old, verified by government-issued identification
- Due to equipment limitations, have a maximum body weight of 280 pounds
- Possess SPRAT Level 1 certification, with at least six months of experience
- Accrue 500 hours or more of documented rope access work as a SPRAT Level 1 technician

Frequently Asked Questions
What exact documentation do I need to prove my hours and experience?
To upgrade to SPRAT Level II, you must present a physically or digitally signed SPRAT logbook verifying a minimum of 500 hours of documented rope access work. You must also have held your SPRAT Level I certification for at least six consecutive months prior to your assessment date. Logbooks must be presented to the evaluator on the day of testing.
What happens if I fail the assessment? Do I have to retake the entire training?
If you do not pass the practical evaluation, you do not necessarily have to retake the full training period, though a refresher is highly recommended. SPRAT regulations allow you to schedule a re-assessment. However, your re-test must be completed within a specific timeframe of your original test date, and additional assessment fees will apply.
Can I take this course if I currently hold an IRATA certification instead of SPRAT?
Yes, but you must apply via the SPRAT Direct Entry / Conversion process before booking. If you have a valid IRATA certification and documented hours, SPRAT allows a direct upgrade pathway to Level II. Please reach out to our team before registering so we can help you submit your hours for formal approval ahead of time.
