The Origin Of Altius

I am often asked why I chose Altius for the name of the company and if it has any meaning, so I thought I would answer that question right now.

When I decided to open a training company here in North America, I thought long and hard about what to call it. I wanted a name that was obviously easy to remember, but also embodied what I wanted the company to be about. Similar companies around the world had words such as “access” or “ropes” in their names, although descriptive this made them blend together.

It was whilst watching the Olympic games that year that I started to think about their motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius” which is Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger. I then began to consider what rope access is compared to other methods of industrial access.

It’s often higher, invariably quicker and definitely safer, drawing on my high school Latin I thought “Altius, Velocius, Tutius – Higher, Faster, Safer” should be the motto of everything we do.

So, I chose Altius as the name of the company as I feel we should always be striving higher in our work, our play and in our lives.

Altius, Velocius, Tutius – Higher, Faster, Safer
